A borewell is a narrow, deep hole drilled into the earth to access underground aquifers for a consistent water supply. Using specialized drilling rigs, these wells reach deep subterranean levels where water is stored in soil or rock crevices. Once the hole is bored, a casing pipe is installed to prevent the walls from collapsing and to keep surface contaminants out of the water source. An electric or submersible pump is then used to draw the water to the surface, making it an essential solution for irrigation, industrial use, and domestic needs in water-scarce areas.
